Icon’s talented print designer and in-house photographer Rom Anthonis, together with Melbourne photographer Brendan O'Shea, have had their skates on for a new series of portraits featuring female skaters from the Victorian Roller Derby League (VRDL). The Roller Derby shoot is the second in a planned series of three, focusing on Melbourne’s quirkier side.

Rom wanted to create a series of photos that showed that Melbourne is an interesting place with a side to it that the mass media don’t know exists, and wanted to record those people, places and events.

Melbournians have moved on from Saturday footy and the humble meat pie to be as cosmopolitan and diverse as any of the world’s big cities. In Melbourne’s back alleys and suburbs, there are communities embracing and celebrating the diversity of culture and activity of the city, such as the VRDL.

The first shoot of the series, The Wrestlers, focuses on the Sunshine Wrestling Hall and its competitors, and can also be accessed on Rom’s website.

When the team from the Austin Hospital approached Icon, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre appeal website required urgent redevelopment. The fundraising team needed a new, improved website that would facilitate online donations and content changes via an easy to use Content Management System. They also wanted to engage with current and potential donors. Building on the centre's vision to be a world-class treatment and wellness centre, Icon created a leading-edge home page design with beautiful imagery and a high level of functionality to inspire visitors to donate to Olivia’s appeal and support the work of the Centre.
